再不要多久，世界上的少數民族以及原住民族就要無「話」可說了，一來找不到可以用的母語，一來對母語的消失只能無語。

一直有不少人作文章，報導世界的語言正如何快速地消失。現在，世界上約有6,800種語言，大概兩個世代（或60年）以後就剩下不到一半了，隨之而去的還有這世界驕傲的，甚至依賴的文化多樣性。

使用人口的多寡不一定就是讓語言消失的元兇，因為至少3000種語言的使用人口都在2,500人以下，比台灣的阿美族、排灣族、泰雅族都少。真正讓語言消失的原因有一說是源於使用人口的老化，年輕人因為沒有興趣、對自己的失去文化信心、外在環境的脅迫（如政府禁止使用母語）、現實經濟生活的需求……等等因素，漸漸向主流的語言及文化靠攏，同時也漸漸遠離自己的傳統。

雖然痞客邦有詳細交代整個搬家的手續，但我還是決定屬於「from the outskirts」的仍屬於「from the outskirts」，好讓「我在台北舊城區」是一個延續的，也是嶄新的園地。

因為這樣，「我在台北舊城區」有了以下類別：

1.生活的點滴（whatever happens）：我自己覺得英文標題比較直接明瞭，任何會讓我想寫的生活大小事都會放在這裡。很多部落格也都充滿這一類的文字，寫給熟人看，讓他們放心原來你還在呼吸；也寫給陌生人看，搞不好能即時把一個走在邊緣的人拉回來，發現他日子過的根本還不賴。

之前我在無名小站寫「from the outskirts」（來自郊區的聲音），從2004年11月到2008年12月，前前後後超過4年，閱覽人數破4萬，平均一年約1萬。這不是什麼了不起的數字，相反的，可能卻是很可憐的數字。不過，是了不起或是可憐，都已經不會讓自己心繫放不下了。

我在恆春開始寫「from the outskirts」，除了描述對生活、閱讀、音樂、電影的心得外，也有喜歡在廚房搞些自創菜色，還有學迪士尼頻道「動手玩創意」節目搞搞的美術作品。菜沒有特別好吃，美術品也只是勉強過得去，還掛在房間的牆上，但當時心裡的滿足感真實在。不過這兩項都在日後被其他類別的文章給取代了。

後來因為自己「斗膽」在恆春社區大學開一門英美文學名著閱讀課，說這是斗膽還真是吃熊心豹子膽了，就這麼領著十幾人一路從聖經讀到紀伯倫，為了當時學生的方便，也在部落格增設英美文學區，提供文本的網頁及自己的閱讀心得。即使課都上完了，我也離開恆春北上了，還陸續有一些相關的心得分享，那是因為還保有一份閱讀的興趣。
